8 stations of pumping, treatment and distribution of drinking water starting from the river Senegal 

8 villages of the valley of the river in the North-West of Senegal (departments of Dagana and Podor) will be equipped in pumping station with river water treatment (Senegal river or its affluents, Lake Guiers). 

- two pumps (one pumping river water and one for repression of the water treated towards the distribution network).These pumps will be wind, solar, electric or diesel pump according to choice's of the village and in a technico-economic preoccupation.

 - a system of treatment including :  elimination of the solid elements by prefiltration, alumina sulphate injection for flocculation and decantation in two basins of 15 m3, filtration with 2 (or 3, according to the sites) sand filters placed in series, chlorination 

- equipment of storage and distribution : a water tower from 40 to 60 m3 according to needs', a network feeding 2 or 3 collective public fountains and 2 or 3 social connections (school, dispensary...).

10 systems of pumping on well

10 villages of the areas of St Louis and  Louga will be equipped with a system of pumping on well with storage and distribution of water.   

- a wind or solar pump according to choice's of the village and in a technico-economic preoccupation with an optimization.

- equipment of storage and distribution:  a basin of 20 m3, 1 or 2 collective public fountains and an end of protection.

7 conditions to acquire equipment of pumping

To benefit from a wind pump’s installation, a village must answer the following conditions :

The training to hygiene and health

- management of the investments ( sale of water, formation to management, a contract enter the village and the outside contributors) 

- technical management (procedures, negotiation of the maintenance contracts with the companies, training).

  • A training with hygiene and health is ensured to maintain the quality of water,  in particular during  transport and storage in the concession : reinforcement of this action which will relate to the new villages equipped but also the 28 old ones.  The NGO "ASBEF", specialized in the field of health, will ensure this task.
